Weird Wednesdays
Wednesdays seem to be the day that I find it easiest to sit down and write an update. I have every intention on other days to tell everyone about a funny story that happened, but I get on, start typing, and get distracted. What is it about Wednesdays that makes it easier? Strange...
Here's your weekly update so far:
Madi's IBD has been acting up for the past week which has made things really difficult lately. Her diapers have blood in them again, which means she had to go back on the steroids. The steroids cause her blood pressure to rise, so now she's on the extra meds for that as well. Then to top it off, she's been sick to her stomach, so they gave us a medication for that. Needless to say, she's been a bit loopy. She has her next Remicaid treatment on Friday and I'm really not looking forward to it. I have to take her to the ER at 8:00 am Friday morning and we'll be there until lunch time. She has to have this treatment by IV for 2 hours. Kind of reminds me of chemotherapy. We'll find out after this treatment and weaning her off the steroids how often she'll have to do these treatments.
On a happier note, she's been doing so much more talking lately! I took her to speech therapy on Monday and the girl would not stay quiet. That is the most she's EVER talked in speech. The appointment went a little like this:
Lil: Hi Madi! Let's work on some pictures! Can you look at these 2 pictures and show me with your eyes which penguin is the COOOOOLD penguin.
Madi: *rolls eyes and sticks tongue out*
Lil: Madi, can you show me which one is cold?
Madi: I want my mommy.
(mouths drop - it was clear as day)
Lil: You're mommy is right there! Let's work on some pictures, then you can go to your mommy.
Madi: I want momma.
(laughter from everyone - she rarely uses her words like this. Then Lil and I started talking about Madi's language which has really fluctuated over the past year. Seems like she's lost a lot of her words she use to say. I gave her examples of what Madi use to say, such as "I go". We haven't heard that in a LOOONG time.)
Lil: OK Madi, let's work for a few minutes...
Madi: I go.
Lil: You go? Where are you going?
Madi: I GO!
Lil: Where do you want to go Madi?
Madi: I go mommy.
Lil: Ok Madi, here's your mommy. See her? She wants you to work for a few minutes and then you can go home with her.
Madi: I go home.
The little bugger was seriously cracking us up. Lil ended up giving in to Madi wanting to talk instead of working on her eye gaze. I swear if Madi had the ability to say it that day she would've said, "I'm tired of pictures, let's do what we're suppose to do in speech...TALK!" Lil seemed to get a little annoyed at the fact that Madi wasn't working with her, but seriously...how upset can you get at a little girl wanting to talk in speech? LOL It did my heart some good to see/hear this.
Now on to Miss Caitlin!
She's doing pretty great as always. We had her family birthday party on Saturday and it was really fun. Without my mom here, I'm not sure I could've pulled it off as well. She was a HUGE help. I've got tons of pics that I'll have to make a slideshow of and post it. Maybe later today?!
She's doing really well in school. I found out last week that based on her testing scores, she's reading at a 3rd grade level! Her teacher is still harassing us to get her the paperwork for the GAIT program...I've been slacking on the paperwork lately. I really need to wake up and get it done. I think Cait could really benefit from it.
Now for a Caitlin funny...
Monday after we came home from speech therapy, I sat Madi on the couch, ran to the bathroom, and started a load of laundry. I was out of the living room for maybe 3-4 minutes. When I walked back into the living room, I walk out to find that Caitlin has built a "fort" around Madi on the couch by using her inflatable swim toys that Mom bought her over the weekend. When I asked what was going on, Cait said, "Uhm, Madi wanted to play house, so I decided to build her a fort...look inside her window, she's really happy with it. I think I should build these for a living or something!" I looked in the "window" (it was the inflatable donut she placed on the side to keep the dolphin aka roof up) and Madi just started laughing. I could try to explain what it looked like, but it just won't do it as much justice as the pictures will. I'll upload and post everything in a few.
My kids were in rare form Monday...
As for me, I'm doing alright. My allergies are acting up today and of course, I'm out of Claritin. The most exciting news is that I was offered my old job back last week. I could probably write an entirely separate post on the subject. I just might do that actually.
Anyways, I'm trying to work as much as I can, keeping up with the kiddos, attempting to get my house in order, and playing a lot of Wii lately. We just got it 2 weeks ago and we love it. I feel like it's given Caitlin and I something else fun to do together. We're going to go to Blockbuster tonight and rent some other games to try out. Who knew I could become a gaming addict? HAHA
Well I better shut my trap and go get ready for work! Hope everyone has a great day.

A Backwards Introduction
Generally the introduction is the first post to a blog, but our lives are pretty hectic and I didn't have enough time to sit down to type one out. It was much easier to shut my best friend up about posting my 1st blog by putting up the pictures. Just so happened to be Wordless Wednesday as well. Bonus! ;)
So please excuse the late introduction!

This is me! My name is Raina. I'm 27 years old and live in North Las Vegas, NV. To pass the time (haha, yeah right!), I work at a law office as an office manager/legal assistant. While this is my main source of income, my most important job is the one I have at home...as the mommy of 2 wonderful little girls.

This is Caitlin! As you can see, she was a birthday girl not too long ago. She just turned 7 years old. What can I say about Caitlin...we usually refer to her as "Cait", she's in 1st grade, sweet, eager, energetic, inquisitive, bright, caring, wise beyond her years, and overall, the best big sister you'll ever meet. She astounds me everday with her caring and generous nature. She most definitely has a stubborn streak...where she gets this is, is beyond me? HAHA! I usually refer to her as the little girl who is 7 going on 18 years old. I'm in a world of hurt once she actually hits her teen years.

This is Madison! While both of my girls are special, Madison (usually referred to as "Madi") is an extremely special little girl. At almost 5 years old, she has been through more health problems than most people experience in several lifetimes. She has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephulus (no shunt), a seizure disorder (might as well call it epilepsy), reactive airways disease (again, might as well call it asthma), and her newest and most difficult diagnosis so far, IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). We are not sure yet if she has Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis...only time will tell which one it is. Even with all of these health problems, she is one of the happiest kids I have ever seen. She definitely does not let her chronic illnesses define her. She is determined, resilient, and strong. The potential I see in her, the motivated spirit, and unwillingness to back down when she's faced with challenges are what keeps me going everyday. Also, she has the most contagious laugh you'll ever hear. It's cute enough to put a smile on anyone's face. Throw in Cait's laugh along with Madi's and you'll forget all about your worries. :)
So that's about all I can say for now. I hope you enjoy reading our blog and I promise to try and update as much as I can!
